Back on the remote Scottish island of Tiree in 2005, the raw but contemporary trad quartet that formed Skerryvore could have only dreamed that over the next decade they would travel the globe performing to cultures and audiences as diverse as Central Park NY to the Huangpu River in Shanghai.
From those traditional roots the band have evolved both in size and sound to create a unique trad-rock-pop fusion that has attracted a loyal following both at home and abroad – 6000 of whom made the journey to Argyll to officially launch the anniversary year at a special open-air concert at Mossfield Stadium, Oban.
Decade is a celebration of the 10 year journey of Skerryvore and features a mix of new studio tracks and live sessions along with special live recordings from internationally renowned festivals such as Tønder (Denmark) and Celtic Connections (Scotland).
The album also includes the No.1 single Happy To Be Home, the band’s latest collaboration with legendary Irish musician Sharon Shannon that topped the iTunes World Music chart on its release in May. Shannon also guests on the new studio track Can’t Find the Cure and will join the band in Scotland in October as part of the Decade World Tour that will include performances in the UK, Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Slovenia, Switzerland and the U.S.A
Skerryvore are: Alec Dalglish (lead vocals & guitars), Martin Gillespie (Bagpipes & Whistles), Daniel Gillespie (accordion), Craig Espie (Fiddle), Fraser West (Drums), Jodie Bremaneson (Bass) and Alan Scobie (Keyboards & Producer)
